Arts & Crafts Website

Overview

I designed this website as a passion project to build a crochet community. The site was created to solve the organization problem of making, publishing, and testing crochet patterns on one platform.

Understanding Scope

Over the pandemic I picked up crochet as a fun hobby. The goal was to make a website that could be an all in one place for crochet tools - a digital crochet notebook.

Narrowing Focus

I was looking to create specific user-driven features such as a row counter and pattern builder that would replace a paper notebook, plus a blog to attract fellow crocheters to the site.

Being Realistic

The goal was to make multiple tools that connect as one brand identity. The site needed to function as a notebook while also gaining organic traffic via a blog to gain notice in the community.

Increasing Users

After launching in 2022, the site was functional but needed updates for ease of use. After user testing and feedback, the site was reconfigured for easier usage and more users started interacting with the site.

Continuing Iterations

There have been several iterations of the site. While the initial design was meant to be for personal use, later iterations have more tools, information and easier access to pattern tools.

Moving Forward

Looking back on the project, more focus can be spent:

  1. User first → more A/B testing for initial user onboarding
  2. Further customization → additional tools should be added for ease of use
  3. Feedback → more user feedback and testing on the site
